Hi! I’m Ilma.
Hiking became my way of pressing pause. Between the pace of daily work and everything that comes with it, getting outside — even for a few hours on a trail — is how I reset. There’s something about the quiet of a forest path or the effort of a climb that daily life just doesn’t give you.
goilma started as a way to document the trails close to home in Latvia — the quiet forest paths, the bog boardwalks, the lakes most people drive past without stopping. But it quickly grew beyond that. Poland’s mountains, especially the Beskids and the Tatras, were simply the closest “big mountains” I could reach — and once I started exploring them, I couldn’t stop. There’s something about trading Latvia’s flat forests for a real climb that keeps pulling me back.
This blog is still growing. Right now you’ll find trail guides from Latvia and Poland, but Lithuania is already here too, and Italy, France, and more of Europe are on the way. My goal is simple: to hike these trails myself, take notes on everything I wish someone had told me beforehand, and share it so your own trip is easier — and hopefully just as memorable.
If you’re planning a hike from anything I’ve written here, I’d love to hear how it went.
